ALUTEAM - Aluminum Testing, Education & Research Center

ALUTEAM continues its activities with the support of the Aluminum Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Business Association (GALSİAD) and Istanbul Development Agency (ISTKA) under three headings:

  • Providing training in order to cultivate a qualified labor force for the aluminum production sector.
  • Aluminum-oriented research and development include developing technologies for improving the production process, using Industrial Rapid Prototyping to design and manufacture high-value aluminum products, and using an extruder press to manufacture aluminum profiles.
  • Accreditation testing for aluminum products.

KURAM - Research Center for the Conservation of Cultural Property of Foundations

The Research Center for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage of Foundations (KURAM) implements various technical research and practice applications for traditional building materials that will be investigated or used in the conservation of cultural heritage buildings.

RESEARCH

KURAM supports research activities within the scope of undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral level research projects developed in the field of conservation of movable and immovable cultural properties. The Research Center includes “Prof. Dr. Ahmet Refik Ersen Restoration and Conservation Laboratory” and aims to carry out research projects, especially with a certain type of historic structure analysis and of traditional building materials, periods, history of construction, and construction systems.

TRAINING

KURAM contributes to the training of students in various levels of education at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University in both theoretical proficiency and practical experience in areas of conservation. KURAM Laboratories and Workshops within the research center are used in the courses offered in associate, Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral programs. Practical courses and seminar programs on application practices encountered often in the conservation of movable cultural property are organized in the conservation workshop.

The Prof. Dr. Ahmet Refik Ersen Restoration and Conservation Laboratory within KURAM, has Wet Chemistry, Petrography, Physico-Mechanics, Mechanical, Advanced Analysis, and Non-destructive Testing Laboratories.

UHAM - Center for International Law

FSM Centre for International Law (FSM UHAM) was established within Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University in late 2016. FSM UHAM is contemplated as a place where scholars pursue research relating to international law to inform the public, policymakers, academics, and particularly legal experts about current developments in the field. From this aspect, FSM UHAM aims to be a research center that also offers policy recommendations for current international problems. To note some of the recent publications, UHAM has published an expert brief regarding the diplomatic crisis between the US and Turkey, an academic assessment regarding the case of Liberland and an exclusive interview with Vit Jedlicka, the founder President of Liberland, and a comprehensive report regarding Libya according to the different aspects of the international law.

UHAM is also planning to launch new projects such as periodic round-table meetings with prominent Turkish international law professors and conference series, through which the globally well-known academicians will be invited to Turkey.

IHAM - The Center for Islamic Law Studies

IHAM was founded in 2018 within the body of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf University, Faculty of Law. Although IHAM contributes to the Islamic Law literature by conducting research on the current status and developments of Islamic Law and publishing this research periodically, it has been designed as the center of scientific studies to be conducted to inform decision-makers, scientific circles, and the public. In this respect, IHAM aims to be a research center that addresses current issues related to Islamic law with a legal perspective as well as theoretical studies.

BETAM - Biomedical Electronic Design Application & Research Center

Turkey's first Biomedical Electronic Device Design, Production, Calibration, and Research Laboratory (BETAL) was established in the Halic Campus of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University within the Biomedical Electronic Design Application and Research Center (BETAM) with financial support from the Istanbul Development Agency (İSTKA), both located on the upper floor of the university R&D building. The laboratory consists of three units; Electronic Prototype Circuit Production, Biomedical Device Calibration, and Research Laboratory. The devices in these labs are open to all teaching staff, engineers, and students who will work on the design, production, and calibration of biomedical electronic devices.

OSMAD - The Center for Ottoman-Malay World Studies

The Center for Ottoman-Malay World Studies was established with the collaboration of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University and the International Islamic University Malaysia, with centers in Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur. The Center’s aim is to scientifically examine the history, policy, military, economy, culture, and society of two of the most important Islamic civilizations in the world. To form a bridge between them and give the new generations a chance to better understand each other.

The main activities of the Center are:

  • Perform research on Ottoman-Malay works, examine specific subject areas, and organize projects aiming to increase the development of the Islamic world.
  • Organize international seminars, conferences, forums, and workshops.
  • Organize meetings and establish collaboration platforms between the related research centers.
  • Publish works written in line with the context of Ottoman-Malay Studies.
  • Establish a research database within the context of Ottoman-Malay Studies.
  • Design Master’s and Doctorate programs related to Ottoman-Malay Studies and encourage and support interested researchers in writing papers and theses related to the subject.
  • Form a bridge between Turkey and Malaysia through cultural and scientific collaborations.

FSMDUAM – Sultan Mehmed II. and His Period Application & Research Center

The aim of the center is to examine the history of the reign of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror in political, military, economic, cultural, and social aspects. In addition, evaluating scientific studies in the national and international fields related to the history of the period, monitoring the developments, organizing congresses, seminars, panels, and conferences, developing and conducting joint projects are also the aims of the center.

For these purposes, the activities of the center are:

  • To present the subject with scientific data by making national and international examinations, academic meetings, and publications on the issues related to Sultan Mehmed II. and his period, and to produce suggestions for the solution of problems.
  • To create an archive library by collecting books, theses, articles, and similar works related to Sultan Mehmed II. and his period in Turkey and abroad.
  • To introduce the researches and cultural heritage values ​​of Sultan Mehmed II. and his period in national and international platforms, to organize periodical national and international symposiums for this purpose, to cooperate with established centers, universities, and institutes for similar purposes at home and abroad, scientific meetings, congress, organizing seminars and panels, developing and conducting joint projects.
  • To encourage the publication of scientific articles and books on the subject in national and international refereed or non-refereed journals, to prepare scientific publications in a systematic manner for publication in the broadcasting organs.
  • To cooperate with national and international research, examination, training centers, institutes, and similar institutions in foreign countries and with foreign and domestic institutions and organizations dealing with the research and applications of Sultan Mehmed II. and his period.

ISM - Islamic Arts Practice & Research Center

The Center, which aims to assist graduate education and training, is divided into two parts research and practice. Studies on Islamic arts work on the collection and interpretation of theoretical information about arts, art education, artist education, art history research, the philosophy of art, and the tight exchange between them. It is possible to bring together the holistic perspective of works that are disconnected from different disciplines related to Islamic art, especially by evaluating the data of the above-mentioned fields of Islamic art theories.

TAM - Community Research & Application Center

The Community Research and Application Center works to minimize the problems faced by disadvantaged people and groups (especially children, young people, the elderly, individuals with special needs, migrants, minorities, women, and the poor) and improve their quality of life. It aims to carry out scientific research and to organize events such as seminars, congresses, and symposiums to create a culture of understanding and empathy. ORDAM - Middle East and Africa Studies Application & Research Center

ORDAM examines the historical, political, social, cultural, and economic aspects of Middle Eastern and African countries and shares its reports and research with the national and international scientific world and the public. It also cooperates with national and international research centers, institutes, academies, universities, and similar institutions which perform research within the context of Middle Eastern and African issues in order to bring the accumulated knowledge to Turkey. In addition, it offers internship opportunities and incentives to young researchers working in the Middle East and African fields in cooperation with different disciplines of our university.

The Center for Hagia Sophia Studies (AYASOFYA)

Aligned with our university's vision and mission, the Center focuses on researching Hagia Sophia's historical, cultural, literary, economic, architectural, and legal aspects besides more expanded other areas. As an open Centre to both local and foreign researchers and organizing cultural activities along with collective scientific studies, our Centre aims at shedding light on the Monument itself and on Istanbul's culture that it is part of.

The monument, being an important element in the Waqf of Sultan Mehmed II., is our prime motivator to sustain Hagia Sophia as a recurrent subject in the scientific field and an unmatched information source for future generations.

The goal of Technology Transfer Office (TTO) activities is to be systematically aware of the competencies of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU) scientific units, to encourage knowledge and technology transfer activities and the commercialization of research results It is responsible for supporting and developing the university’s innovative activity. The TTO's primary mission is the commercialization of the university's expertise for the benefit of FSMVU and the wider community.

Child Education Application and Research Center

The Center aims to support the cognitive, language, psychomotor, social, and emotional development of children through research, education, publishing, and organizing events for the benefit of children, educators, parents, as well as the academic community. The center adopts a child-centered, interdisciplinary approach that views the best interests and well-being of the child as a priority in its work.

Toward this aim, the activities of the center include but are not limited to:

The center was established in 2020 for individual, social, academic, and professional studies. In the applied section of the PUAM, students and relatives are working publicly with academic-administrative staff and relatives. The Arabic Language Studies and Arabic Debate Education and Practice Center, established in 2022 in partnership with Fatih Sultan Mehmet University and the Qatar Foundation's QatarDebate Center, aims to contribute to the dissemination of the Arabic language and culture by focusing on both classical and modern forms of the Arabic language. We collaborate with experts and scholars in the field of Arabic language studies, conducting research, and publications, and organizing events that deepen our understanding of this rich language and its role in Islamic civilization. Additionally, we aspire to enhance communication and cultural interaction between our country and the Arab world. Through activities such as international debate competitions, we promote cross-border dialogue and cooperation.
