Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU), Istanbul, Türkiye, participated in the NAFSA 2026 Annual Conference & Expo, one of the world’s most prominent gatherings dedicated to international higher education and global engagement. Bringing together professionals and institutions from across the globe, the event provided an exceptional platform for strengthening partnerships, exchanging knowledge, and exploring new opportunities for collaboration.
Throughout the conference, the participating delegation from FSMVU’s Directorate of International Relations attended sessions on Community Colleges, networking and professional connections, Global North–South Partnerships, and leadership in higher education. The delegation also participated in the International Education Leadership (IEL) program, which focused on strengthening leadership capacity in international education and enhancing strategic global engagement. In addition, workshops such as Recruiting International Students addressed key topics including understanding market trends, identifying high-growth regions, and refining strategies to reach diverse student populations. During the pre-conference sessions, further topics shaping the future of global engagement were explored in depth, including Assessment and Evaluation of Partnerships, which emphasized building sustainable collaborations, aligning partnerships with institutional goals, and implementing effective evaluation frameworks.
During the event, FSMVU held numerous productive meetings and exchanged ideas with university representatives, colleagues, and partners from Spain, Portugal, the United States, Italy, Egypt, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Malaysia, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Peru, Ecuador, Germany, Slovakia, and New Zealand. These interactions focused on enhancing cooperation in student and staff mobility, academic partnerships, and internationalization strategies, further expanding FSMVU’s global network.
Beyond formal sessions and meetings, the conference provided a dynamic environment for meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and intercultural exchange. During the event, FSMVU also had the opportunity to meet with NAFSA Executive Director and CEO Dr. Fanta Aw. As a gesture of appreciation, the delegation presented her with a painting of Fatih Sultan Mehmet as a souvenir from the University. NAFSA 2026 once again demonstrated its strength in bringing together diverse perspectives and transforming connections into long-term collaborations and shared visions for the future of higher education.
As the conference concluded, FSMVU reflected on a highly productive and inspiring experience marked by knowledge exchange, new partnerships, and strengthened international ties. The University remains committed to advancing its internationalization efforts and continuing to build impactful global connections for its academic community.
