As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 teaching mobility program, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University (FSMVU) had the honor of hosting Prof. Dr. Mohamed Omran, Professor of Economics at the Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (ASTMT), for a seminar focused on the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and its global impact.
In his comprehensive presentation, Prof. Omran shed light on the ISSB’s journey, the priorities of its governance structures, stakeholder engagement mechanisms, group classifications, and the latest academic research and findings related to sustainable development. His insights emphasized the critical role of standard-setting in promoting transparency, accountability, and long-term resilience across global financial and economic systems. The event attracted strong interest from both students and academic staff, with the seminar continuing into a vibrant Q&A session. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a meaningful dialogue on sustainability, policy, and research directions. The session concluded with a gesture of appreciation, as Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. F. Gulruh Gurbuz and Prof. Dr. Lokman Gunduz presented a commemorative gift to Prof. Omran.
The discussions also explored key topics surrounding Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) frameworks, including:
-
The strategic importance of ESG in modern business and finance
-
ESG’s role in stakeholder engagement and corporate accountability
-
The integration of ESG principles into investment decision-making and regulatory frameworks
These conversations highlighted the growing significance of ESG in shaping responsible business conduct and aligning academic research with evolving global standards. The visit further opened the door for potential academic collaboration and joint research in the fields of ESG, sustainability, and governance, especially in emerging markets. This visit is part of the broader Erasmus+ KA171 project, which aims to strengthen international collaboration in higher education through academic exchange and joint knowledge production. The cooperation between us not only enriches academic curricula but also fosters a shared understanding of pressing global issues such as sustainability, governance, and economic transformation. By facilitating the exchange of expertise and best practices, the KA171 project plays a pivotal role in building institutional capacity, advancing research, and creating long-term partnerships.
FSMVU remains committed to expanding its international networks and promoting impactful academic engagement, with initiatives like KA171 continuing to support the university’s strategic goals in global education, research excellence, and sustainable development.
